With a population of more than 9.8 million, Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the United States. The county itself is more populous than 42 of the country's states and the city of Los Angeles is the country's second largest city. Los Angeles County Attractions
Los Angeles County is home to some of the country's premiere attractions and entertainment venues. Within the county lies the center of American film and television, Hollywood. Residents and visitors can enjoy a day at Universal Studios Hollywood, a theme park that entertains guests with thrill rides based on major movies as well as studio tours to catch a glimpse of how movies are made.
Los Angeles County is home to many parks, the largest of which is Griffith Park. Here visitors can enjoy biking, hiking, picnicking, horseback riding or visiting the Los Angeles Zoo. The park is also home to Griffith Park Observatory, where visitors can view exhibits about the universe and offers opportunities to learn about the night sky. Los Angeles County certainly has a reputation for its transportation system. There are many major highways that serve the area including I-5, I-105, I-405, I-605, I-10, I-110, I-210, I-710, US Route 101 and many, many more.
There are several major airports within Los Angeles County. The largest is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Others include Long Beach Municipal Airport, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, LA/Palmdale Regional Airport, Van Nuys Airport, Santa Monica Airport, Hawthorne Municipal Airport and Zamperini Field in Torrance.
Because Los Angeles County has many port facilities, there are a number of railroad lines. Passenger rail service is provided by Amtrak, Los Angeles Metro Rail and Metrolink. Union Station in downtown Los Angeles is the primary hub for commuter trains.
Los Angeles County also has two major seaports. The Port of Los Angeles is the largest cruise ship center on the west coast and handles more than 1 million passengers annually. Ferry service is also available to Catalina Island through Long Beach. The Port of Long Beach handles mostly commercial sea traffic.
